School cleaning & maintenance staff want fair wages for the work that we do

We work hard to make sure that schools are a safe and hygienic learning environment for our kids.

Contracting out to private providers hurts us because:

  • Private contractors can pay lower wages;
  • Private contractors can slash jobs and make our workloads even higher;
  • Private contractors may not respect our right to negotiate a fair collective agreement to protect our wages and conditions.

We need fair wages so that we can support our families. We need reasonable workloads so that we can do our jobs properly. And we need the right to collectively organise so we can all have a voice.

So far the state government has only announced that it wants to contract out maintenance in 7 schools – but what happens after that? And what about other workers in schools? If we don’t stand up for workers’ wages and conditions here and now, what sort of message do we send for the future?

A circle of workers join hands
Help us fight to protect our conditions

We are fighting because we are proud of our schools and our school communities.

We think Queensland’s kids deserve learning environments that are clean and safe.

We know that private contracting leads to dirty, unsafe schools.

We are fighting because we want to do the best possible job – and we can’t do that if the state government forces us onto private contracts.
